Our Program

The Chrysalis Center develops personalized academic instruction and life skill acquisition services for individuals with special needs. Our focus is on developing the right program for the individual – a program that is dynamic and evolving with the individual’s advancement in their knowledge and skill set.

The program welcomes teens and young adults who need additional support beyond what their school or homeschool programs can provide, or for young adults who have aged out of secondary school but have not yet acquired the skills needed to be successful adults. The Center’s programs cannot currently accommodate individuals who require applied behavioral therapy or behavioral intervention.  

Candidates are evaluated by a Special Education Teacher and Skill Acquisition Coach to develop a highly customized program to further educational advancement (beyond traditional school) and prepare them with life skills needed to be successful adults. This process involves collaboration with parents and appropriate therapists (speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, etc.). We believe that both parents and therapists are an integral part of the process, and they are involved from the beginning in the development of the continually evolving program.

Individuals will work one-on-one with a Special Education Teacher/Consultant (in a private study room) for fully customized academic instruction designed based upon an individual’s goals and the combined feedback derived from the intake process. They will also work with a Skill Acquisition Coach who will teach skills related to pre-vocation, vocation, self-help and self-facilitated leisure activities – specific skill acquisition services provided are determined and tailored based upon an individual’s needs and interests. The Center’s programs also integrate the use of physical movement throughout “mind-body” sessions to access different parts of the brain and enhance brain function. Parents are invited to be involved in the programing and are always welcome to observe and participate in the sessions. 

HEPA filters are continuously running throughout the center. All shared equipment and surfaces are sanitized after use. Teacher and Coaches are happy to wear a KN95 mask to help protect vulnerable individuals from illness. In addition, our 1:1 academic instruction is in a private study room.
